The National Forest Service sells logging rights to timber companies. It’s reality, but I’m seeing it more and more in North Georgia and Northwestern South Carolina lately. We went hiking on the Chattooga this past weekend and here’s one example.
The view from the trailhead looking west in September 2011.
And here’s the same view this weekend on August 2016.
I nearly didn’t recognize the trailhead – and we weren’t the only ones! While we loaded our packs, we sent two other hiking groups in the right direction as they headed up the wrong trail. But the breeze on the ridge was nice – it was 90+ degrees for our hike out.
