Bernice State Park is a small but popular state park located on the northwestern corner of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees in Bernice, Oklahoma. Known as the “Crappie Capital of the World,” it’s a favorite destination for fishing, camping, and wildlife viewing. The park is famous for its crappie fishing, along with bass, catfish, and bluegill. There’s a fishing pier and boat access for anglers. The Bernice Nature Trail & Marsh Boardwalk offers some hiking with scenic views to the lake and wetlands at Grand Lake.
This short hike winds along the banks of Grand Lake with two viewing towers that provide a look at both the lake and some wildlife plots situated in the State Park. A portion of the trail is paved for handicapped visitor’s and another section is designated as a primitive trail. The wildflower plot is particularly impressive in the spring/early summer months. The park is open 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM seven days a week.
