Oxbo Trail (via Waller Park)

The City of Roswell has an extensive network of trails and outdoor recreational areas, benefiting from its location along the Chattahoochee River and the wooded landscapes, wetlands, and creeks that surround the community. The area offers a variety of hiking experiences, ranging from short neighborhood and park walks to longer routes that pass through protected natural areas. Some of the better-known trails and outdoor destinations in and around Roswell include the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, the Oxbo Trail, the Vickery Creek Trail, the Big Creek Greenway, and the Roswell Riverwalk. Together, these trails provide access to a mixture of hardwood forests, river corridors, streams, historic sites, wetlands, and open green spaces. The Chattahoochee River is particularly important to Roswell’s recreational landscape, with numerous parks and trails taking advantage of the river and its tributaries. This extensive collection of outdoor areas gives residents and visitors numerous opportunities for hiking, walking, running, bicycling, wildlife observation, and exploring the natural environment without having to travel far from the city.

The Oxbo Trail runs between Waller Park and Grimes Bridge Park, with an extension that follows Waller Creek for approximately a mile. The trail system offers a mixture of dirt, paved, and crushed-stone surfaces as it passes through wooded areas and along the creek, providing some variety despite being located within the developed Roswell area. The main trail can be accessed from either park, while another access point is available from a parking area along Grimes Bridge Road. One of the advantages of the Oxbo Trail is its connection to the larger Vickery Creek Trail system. A bridge provides a link between the two trail areas, with Vickery Creek managed by the National Park Service as part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. By combining the two systems, hikers can create a considerably longer outing through the surrounding woods and creek corridors. Another highlight is the waterfall along Oxbo Road, which can be viewed from the bridge as the water drops through the rocky creek channel below. The waterfall is especially impressive following periods of heavy rain, while the view is often easier to appreciate during the winter months when reduced foliage provides better visibility.
