Grand Canyon National Park is located in northwestern Arizona and encompasses nearly two million square miles of land. The park’s primary feature is the Grand Canyon – a gorge carved by the Colorado River which is considered one of the Wonders of the World. It is one of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere on the globe. Grand Canyon National Park receives nearly five million visitors a year and is the second most visited national park after the Great Smoky Mountains. The views from the rim of the canyon are nothing short of spectacular, and people come from all over to see them.
This is a short and easy day hike in the park that follows a dirt road to Shoshone Point which has 180 degree views of the Grand Canyon. If you look closely in the upper right corner of this picture, you might also catch a glimpse of the Colorado River in distance. There is a picnic area and restroom (pit toilet) at the end of the road, but the area is occasionally used for weddings and other random events and may be closed to the public. So you might want to check with the park service before you head to the trailhead.
