The Coastal Discovery Museum in Hilton Head, South Carolina is a cultural and educational center dedicated to preserving and promoting the natural and cultural history of the Lowcountry region. The museum features a variety of indoor and outdoor exhibits showcasing the diverse ecosystems, wildlife, and cultural heritage of the South Carolina coast. These exhibits often include displays on local flora and fauna, Gullah culture, maritime history, and the island’s ecology. The Coastal Discovery Museum is situated on the Honey Horn property, a historic site that dates back to the 18th century. Visitors can explore historic buildings, gardens, and trails while learning about the area’s rich history and significance.
The museum’s grounds have several nature trails and gardens where visitors can see local wildlife, native plants, and scenic landscapes. These provide an opportunity for a leisure walk, birdwatching, and photography. On this hike, we took the Around The Horn Trail to Jarvis Creek and walked just over a mile around the premises to check out the nearby Discovery House, Lab, and Gardens. This hike is suitable for all ages – especially for young children.
