Highlights:

Cane Creek Park is a beautiful outdoor recreational area located near Waxhaw, North Carolina. This 1,050-acre park is a popular destination for individuals and families seeking a variety of activities in a scenic environment.  Several miles of hiking and and nature trails offer a chance to explore the park’s diverse ecosystem.  Cane Creek Park is run by Union County, and the focal point is a 350-acre lake rumored to house trophy bass.  The park hosts various community events throughout the year, including fishing tournaments and holiday celebrations.

Cane Creek Park has wilderness, group, and full-service campsites surrounding the water. There are also nearly 14 miles of trails for hikers, bikers, and horseback riders.  On this hike, I started at the parking lot for the group campsites and hiked the green trail to some of the points along the lake. There isn’t a lot of elevation change on this route and this hike gives you a chance to explore the group camping area and some of the nearby cabins.  The park is typically open year-round, but hours may vary by season.
