Highlights:

Playa Avellanas is a renowned beach in Costa Rica, located on the Pacific coast in the Guanacaste province. It’s famous for its pristine white sand, excellent surfing conditions, and beautiful scenery. The area is characterized by its relaxed atmosphere and natural surroundings – which makes it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists looking for a tranquil beach experience.  Playa Avellanas has far fewer facilities and significantly less people than the tourist areas like nearby Tamarindo, but the beach is known for its consistent waves – making it particularly popular among surfers of all skill levels. There are several surf breaks along the coastline, offering something for everyone from beginners to advanced surfers.

On this hike, we walked the beach past volcanic rock, howler monkeys, and iguanas. The hike starts and ends at Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club – which is one of a number of beachfront restaurants and bars in the area where visitors can relax and enjoy the stunning ocean views.  Playa Avellanas is a beautiful destination for those seeking a laid-back beach experience in Costa Rica and the beach offers a chance to experience the raw beauty of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
