Highlights:

Camp Barney Medintz is the overnight camp of the Marcus JCC of Atlanta, located in the north Georgia Blue Ridge mountains and near Cleveland, GA. The camp sits on 540 acres, and has two large private lakes. Since 1963, “Camp Barney” has served nearly 1400 boys & girls each summer from all across the US.  The camp is open to to kids who have completed kindergarten through 10th grade and it offers one-week, two-week, and four-week sessions during the summer.  Activities include swimming, boating, water slides, horseback riding, ropes courses, zip lines, arts and crafts, performing arts, sports, high-adventure outings, and more. The camp is ACA-accredited and prioritizes safety and inclusion.

The lakes at the camp are individually named: Lake Louis (Kuniansky) and Lake Wendy (Orkin). They’re woven into camp culture and venues— like the Chippie Amphitheatre, which overlooks Lake Wendy.  This hike at Camp Barney starts at the fishing dock and shelter and follows a jeep trail around Lake Louis. The hike is flat and easy and it’s worth taking a fishing pole along as you work your way around the lake. There are a lot of largemouth bass in Lake Louis.  This is private land so make sure to get permission to visit the camp before you explore the area
