Olde Rope Mill Park is managed by the City of Woodstock Parks & Recreation Department with land that also falls under the broader Lake Allatoona system – which is overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This shared management means the park is maintained locally for recreation while still following federal guidelines tied to the reservoir, shoreline access, and water levels. The result is a well-organized public park that supports hiking, biking, kayaking, and river access while preserving the natural corridor of the Little River as it feeds into Lake Allatoona.
Inside the park, the Taylor Randahl Memorial Trail system is a major feature – maintained through a partnership between the city and SORBA Woodstock, a volunteer group that builds and sustains mountain bike trails. The system is heavily used by both bikers and hikers and includes directional flow days to manage traffic. The park’s main hiking destination, Allatoona Falls, lies about 1.2 miles upstream along the Little River and is best described as a broad, rocky cascade rather than a tall waterfall. The falls spread over layered rock shelves, creating a scenic series of rapids that vary significantly with rainfall—sometimes a gentle flow over exposed stone, and other times a powerful rushing feature when water levels are high near Lake Allatoona.
