Hilton Head Island is a Lowcountry resort town located in Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA. The island is named for Captain William Hilton who in 1663 identified a headland near the entrance to Port Royal Sound which he named “Hilton’s Head”. The island has 12 miles of beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean and is a popular vacation destination.
Coligny Beach is located at 1 North Forest Beach Drive on Hilton Head Island and is accessed via Pope Avenue off the Coligny Circle area. It is a public beach and park with a free public parking area for visitors. The beach and nearby Coligny Plaza have lots of amenities including dining & shopping — which makes it a comfortable, full-day beach option over a more remote wilderness experience like you would find at Pickney Island. Because it’s a popular public beach on the island, Coligny Beach is typically busier than many beaches on the island – especially in the summer months. This is a short hike that starts at the Pope Avenue parking area and follows the beach northbound with views to the east of the Atlantic Ocean. You backtrack to the parking area and the Coligny Beach Park that leads to the parking area on Pope Avenue.
