HIGHLIGHTS: Devil’s Fork State Park is located in the northwestern corner of South Carolina and is an undeveloped 7,500-acre reservoir tucked deep into the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was leased in 1991 by the State of South Carolina from the Duke Power Company and it currently provides the only public access to Lake Jocassee.

This paddling trip starts at the boat ramps near the Devil’s Fork State Park visitor’s center. There are three potential launch points where you can cross Lake Jocassee bound for the Double Springs Primitive Campground. About two miles away, the 10+ sites are available for public use with tent pads and fire rings and even a rustic outhouse situated up on the ridge. These are the only “official” sites for overnight camping on Lake Jocassee which is largely surrounded by Duke Power land.
