Little Ocmulgee State Park is located in South Georgia and offers a wide variety of activities. There is the 18-hole Wallace Adams Golf Course, a 265 acre lake with boating, swimming and fishing facilities, and the 2.8 mile Oak Ridge Hiking Trail. The park was once at the edge of an ancient ocean, so the terrain is composed of moist, fertile swamps with dry, sandy ridges and it is an interesting area to explore either for the day or over a weekend.
The 2.6 mile Oak Ridge Trail is a roundtrip loop hike that begins at the parking area next to the Lodge and Conference Center and this profile follows the route in a clockwise direction. To start the hike, leave the lodge and cross over a short boardwalk heading to the southwest. Here the trail is typical of the coastal areas in eastern Georgia and South Carolina with the moist, swampy terrain typical of the Lowcountry. Trees like tupelo, cypress, maples, and longleaf pines are common trees in the area, and hikers might notice birds like the blue heron soaring the skies around the damned lake.
