HIGHLIGHTS: The elevations in Massachusetts range from 650?3,491 feet, and the Appalachian Trail covers ninety miles in the state. The Connecticut and Massachusetts border is located right near Sages Ravine, a scenic area with many trees and waterfalls. Bear Rock Falls is a short distance north, and like Sages Ravine there are designated campsites in this area. We watched an incredible sunrise from the cliffs at Bear Rock Falls.

Race Mountain and Mt. Everett (2,602 feet) also have dramatic views. There is a fire tower on Everett (but it is closed to the public). Nonetheless, Mt. Greylock is seen forty miles to the northeast and Monument Mountain is visible to the north.

The Trail continues northbound and eventually descends to US 7 near the small Village of Sheffield where Nomad and I hitched a ride into town.
